Acknowledging the Work of Others
Any use of copyright material should be accompanied by sufficient acknowledgement (e.g. in the bibliography of a finished essay or report). So, if any part of an 'in copyright' work is reproduced as part of your assignment, this must be supported by sufficient acknowledgement and attribution.
The only exception to this is where it would be impossible in practice to acknowledge the source of your extract – for example, in a sound recording, film or broadcast.
Correct and consistent referencing of other people's work not only demonstrates you respect intellectual property rights; it can also help you avoid plagiarism.
